Will electing Larry the reduce the board’s diversity?

Yes.  A white cisgender male will join the board, which will not enhance its diversity by race, gender, age, or identity.  (He will be replacing trustee John Newhall, who is completing his second term).

And.  Diversity of experience, skills, approach, and attitude will be enhanced in some ways.  We’ll have on the board someone who

  • Knows deeply our history and culture, its strengths and its many flaws.

  • Has served as an executive and board member at nonprofit organizations larger and more complex than the UUA.

  • Brings professional expertise in governance, strategy and finance, honed through consulting and volunteer service.

  • Is deeply committed to challenging and ending white supremacy culture, in this case by someone on the inside.
